3rd Lindsay, Nashville, TN - 25 April 2012
After the disbandment of The Thieves in early 2012, Sheryl soon assembled a new touring band, more suited to her traditional musical style and material. The group is composed by the veteran Peter Stroud on lead guitar, Audley Freed on rhythm guitar, Robert Kearns on bass, Joshua Grange on pedal steel/keys and Fred Eltringham on drums.
Sonically, the new band reminds me the shows of the "TNMC" and "Self-Titled" eras (1993-1997), but with a tad more emphasis on guitars. The musicians' background also suggests the sound of the forthcoming (and yet untitled) record, often described by Sheryl as a blend of Country and Americana. For instance, Audley Freed played and recorded with the likes of the Cry of Love, the Dixie Chicks, Gov't Mule and Jakob Dylan & The Gold Mountain Rebels. Also, Fred Eltringham and Joshua Grange worked with the Dixie Chicks, k.d. lang and Dwight Yoakam. On the other hand, Robert Kearns was the bassist for the Cry of Love, The Bottle Rockets, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Jack Ingram.
It is also worth mentioning that all the new guys are members of an another fantastic band: the Nashville/Atlanta-based The Big Hat. Please check'em out because they are truly great!
As you can see, they have traversed many of the same paths. This means their common background and experiences helps to keep the tightness on stage and makes it easier for them to communicate their musical views.

2013 - With the forthcoming release of Sheryl's first country record ("Feels Like Home"), it was decided to hire Jen Gunderman as the new keyboardist. Jen (also wife of Audley Freed) divides her time between performing, recording, and teaching at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music in Nashville. Her resume include touring with rock bands Dag and the Jayhawks. as well as recording and sharing the stage with a diverse variety of musicians, including Kris Kristofferson, Cry of Love, Loretta Lynn, Steve Cropper, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, Don Was, Duane Eddy and many others.
