Sessions with Sheryl, Toby Gad and Jeff Trott
Nashville, Tennessee

Late January

First photos have emerged from Sheryl's recording sessions for her upcoming album!

Here's some info about Toby Gad from Wikipedia:

Tobias “Toby” Gad (born 12 April 1968) is a Los Angeles-based German music producer/songwriter, best known for co-writing "All of Me" and for co-writing and producing "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie and "If I Were a Boy" by Beyonce. Other notable works include Skyscraper for Demi Lovato, "Who You Are" for Jessie J, “Untouched” for The Veronicas, "A Year Without Rain" for Selena Gomez & the Scene, "Don't Hold Your Breath" for Nicole Scherzinger, "Love You More" for JLS, and "I Do" for Colbie Caillat. In the 3rd quarter of 2014 Toby was ranked the #3 songwriter in America by Billboard (magazine), following up fellow hitmakers Ryan Tedder and Pharrell Williams. MORE HERE

OK, Toby Gad is a successful songwriter and producer, but why him?
What business he has with the country/americana market?

I'm glad that Jett Trott is involved though.

Here's a little snippet from a song recorded during those recording sessions (courtesy of Toby Gad):

I'm not sure if Sheryl is still signed with Warner Music Nashville. Apparently she's disappeared from the label's artists roster (at least on their website).

On April 9th Sheryl posted this handwritten note on her Facebook page. Apparently she's working on "a couple of studio records". Yes, TWO albums!

21 May - NEW VIDEO! After a charity event in New Orleans, Sheryl briefly talked about her future projects, including the new album:

And here's where things get VERY interesting... and puzzling :-)

A photo group with Sheryl, Joe Walsh, Vince Gill and Steve Jordan appeared on Facebook on Wednesday June 17th.

"How ya doin? Here at Sheryl Crow’s studio in Brentwood, TN with Vince Gill & Steve Jordan."
(Photo and caption by Joe Walsh)

"Best day ever! Vince Gill & Joe Walsh & Steve Jordan in the studio!"

I wrote "puzzling" because I don't really see any correlation between the pop hitmaker Toby Gad and these veterans.

So, what the heck is happening? :-)

Some info about Joe Walsh and Steve Jordan

Yay! Vince GIll tell us the story behind the picture of him, Sheryl, Joe Walsh and Steve Jordan:

"We just got to be friends over the years and Steve is producing Sheryl’s new record and Sheryl said, “I just want people I love on this record,” so Joe and I, we got to play together on one of the tracks on Sheryl’s record. That was great fun. You know, straight up, this is one of those things that I’m looking over and I’m going, “This really happened?” [Laughs] You know, I’ve got my heroes, I’ve got my people that I like and was crazy about and all of these years later, I look up and I go, “How did this work out?” I’m like a kid in a candy shop when that kind of stuff gets to happen." (clevescene.com, 1 September 2015)

WOW, so now we know that Steve Jordan is the producer of the next record. Or, at least, of one of the two records mentioned by Sheryl in last April :-)

Apparently Sheryl hired new collaborators, the Broken City. According to their website:

"Broken City is the writing/production/mixing team of Adam Watts & Gannin Arnold. Their combined work has contributed to over 50 Million Albums Sold"

The Broken City left Nashville on September 23rd. Here's the last post:

"After a surreal and fruitful (yet short) week writing/recording with Sheryl Crow & Jeff Trott... nice humans and epic artists. She's one of my all time favs and Jeff is like a secret sauce.

So cool to see their partnership in action...

Pick a Crow classic it's likely it's a Crow/Trott song:)

And now: back to Brea."

Oh yes! The veteran session guitarist Robert "Waddy" Wachtel is working in studio with Sheryl.

Interviewed by The Los Angeles Times, Waddy said:

"I am still definitely playing sessions all the time," [...] "I just did a great rock 'n' roll tune with Sheryl Crow."

Can't wait!

Look, look who's here...
